iPod, schmi-Pod...

(WARNING; LONG RANT AHEAD THAT WILL PROBABLY PISS OFF SOME TECH GEEKS...
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE, THESE ARE JUST MY OPIONS)

So Apple announces the release of a new iPod this week...great!  But then they announce they are reducing the price of the iPhone by $200 bucks... now this has pissed off a bunch of tech geeks (sorry guys, remember, I am a band geek)... You should not be pissed off... If you are the true tech geek that you are, you know that eventually EVERY tech thingy that comes out, comes down in price... From DVD players and HiDef televisions, to computers and laptops... everything gets cheaper after the intial release... You have to be smarter than that... now Apple is going to take it in the shorts (maybe not) and give the folks who stood in line for days, for a fucking phone, a $100 credit. Notice I said CREDIT, not cash... here is where you smart techies get screwed again... you will happily go into the store or online to buy something, and more than likely, spend more than the $100 credit... this Steve Jobs guy is a FUCKING GENIOUS!!!  I guess I am stupid and don't understand what good having all this crap on your phone does...  I have enough problems typing on my keyboard now, I can't imagine how many typos I would have trying to type on a small ass phone, while driving, walking, talking, working, sleeping, eating, or breathing... and speaking of phones... I have the Motorola Razor and still cannot figure it out... I can call and I can check VOICE messages... even somewhat text when I HAVE to, but shit, I hardly use any of its features.. I don't need to... Remember, it was not 20 years ago when we would actually leave home to go to work or school and actually not be able to talk to anyone until we got to our destination... we had to pay for long distance calls... there was not wide use of emails... you had two numbers, home and work and both those had voicemail... we were not pissed about dropped calls or not being able to check email every 5 seconds... we were pissed when we got home and the dog had walked by the phone and pulled the answering machine plug undone... we were pissed when our CD player clipped to our waist at the gym would skip or we lost one of the covers to the earphones would go missing... Today everyone bitches about being bothered all the time with phone calls and emails, but then turn around and bitch when they can't get cell service while driving through a valley...ughhh... what a bunch of whinners we have become (myself included)... I get pissed when my internet is slow... I get pissed when my cell does not work in my kitchen... I get pissed when my cable goes out... I get pissed when my iPod dies at the gym*... but I will say this...  I have never stood in line for anything for hours, days or weeks before it came out, premiered or performed... that is just fucking rediculous... soooo if you were crazy enough to take time off work to stand in line for the new iPhone and crazy enough pay $599 for it, well then, you have already been lubed up and fucked, so this time when you cash in your credit, it should just slide in a little easier (maybe a little spit would help)...I digress... and I apologize if I have offended any tech geeks... this band geek will now go beat his drum... Happy Friday!!

*(and yes I do have an iPod shuffle that I got through work for free, and the iPod shuffle clip I bought Jeff was on sale... so yes, I am an iPod fan, but not obsessive, except it will not sync up with Vista on my laptop...dammit!)

I am devoted to Apple - I love the way the products work and look. BUT, that said, it is annoying when they come out with new versions like every 10 minutes. I just bought a "new" I-Pod Nano like 4 months ago, and now there is another "new" one, that is even better. Oh well. At least I had the smarts to wait for the i-Phone to go down in price.

Back in Feb. of this year, I reposted a blog entry by Bravehound.com detailing why no one should buy an I phone till late next year. Those who didn't listen are pissed at the weeks events and I don't think they're over yet.

Wait 'til the 50 Gig comes out next X-mas. Then the fireworks will start to go off.

i don't into tech, and not for the new things; but even i knew that the price would drop as they became older/more available - and knew i should wait a year or so; if people were so eager to have it asap then they pay the price
    and stop the bitching....

I agree. Anyone who would wait in line for anything techie really needs to get a clue. Yes, those things go down in price. I have some friends who waited in line for the new play station. I have no idea what possessed them or gave them the energy to sit outside for so long.

I too will not stand in line for anything that I know I can get at a later time when the initial buzz is over and in most cases at a cheaper price. Nothing is that fantastic. With that said I came in late to the whole iPod thing and will admit that I believe that they are a wonderful thing. IIt's brilliant being able to carry every single bit of music that I own and then some with me wherever I go. As I said I came to the party late and I bought a 6G iPod mini which was shortly thereafter replaced by the nano. I am buying a replacement for this iPod and moving up to the newly released 160G iPod classic. Actually it is going to be a B-day present from my hubby. I can't wait to see how much music I can put into the new one. I think I'll be buying a whole lot of stuff I have had in the past but it either got lost it or damaged some how. Anyway, I understand your rant but all in all you have to admit that Apple products are aesthetically nice to look at and in the case of the iPod very handy. Or at least I think so. Now if I could just get up the courage to buy a Mac. Just my humble opinion

I want the iPhone but haven't gotten one yet. Currently I have a Blackjack and I have to say that having access to email, text messages and instant messages along with voice mail can be overwhelming. I have no excuse that someone can't get a hold of me anymore.

Kelly, take a deep breath *in with the good air, out with the bad air*.

It's all just about "planned obsolescence". It's the best business tactic in the world...and it works because more people are suckers than not.
